Wow! I was nominated by Zoe of www.icedcoffeecreature.com for a Liebster Award! She writes about “Madcap Misadventures in Life, Parenting and Health!” If you haven’t read her blog, you should! She also suffers from a thyroid disorder, but she writes about much more. I’m honored and excited to accept the award!
The Liebster Award is basically an award that is by bloggers, for bloggers. It’s passed from person to person to encourage connection and support within our writing community, and to aid in the discovery of new and upcoming bloggers.
The rules to accept the award are:
1. Add the award to your own blog!
2. Thank the person who nominated you!
3. Mention the rules!
4. Answer the questions posed by the person who nominated you!
5. Nominate blogs for the award!
6. Let the bloggers know so they can ‘accept’ the award if they want to!
Here are the questions:
1. Why did you start this blog?
I started this blog to raise awareness of Congenital Hypothyroidism and other thyroid disorders that affect children, and to create a community of support for adults and children alike. It has been very rewarding to share our family’s story and journey with thyroid disorders.
2. Tell us what excites you:
Stories from adults who have grown up with Congenital Hypothyroidism that are now healthy and happy and thriving excite me the most! I also love to hear more about research and developments that will help our children be healthier and happier! One new thing that I learned about is a new technology that would allow thyroid testing (not just newborn screening) to be done from a blood spot (instead of a full blood draw). That would be way easier for our children! I would love for that to be accessible for all children!
3. Why do you believe that comments and communication help bloggers?
Feedback is essential and keeps the discussion going! Bloggers want to learn from their readers just as much as readers want to learn from bloggers! Also, because blogging doesn’t pay, sometimes I get discouraged and wonder if it’s worth all the work, but when I get positive feedback from my readers, it helps me remember that this labor of love is worth it!
4. What do you talk about in your blog?
I talk about all things thyroid related, but also share anything that relates to my personal journey and parenting!
5. Have you created a friendly relationship with other bloggers? Have you ever met in real-life?
I have met other bloggers, but have only met one other thyroid health advocate in person! It was pretty awesome to meet her!
6. How do you picture your blog in two years? How would you like to see it evolve?
I see my blog continuing to be a place for parents and thyroid sufferers to find support and community! I would like for my blog to evolve to provide more information for children and youth as they become old enough to research and learn more about their own thyroid disorders.
7. What do you do best?
Write from my heart.
8. How long do you devote to your blog?
I spend an hour most days answering emails, messages and doing research for upcoming blog posts.
9. How are your posts created?
Written on my laptop. Some are spur of the moment when I feel like writing, but some are put together over time based on the amount of research required.
10. Wishes for the reader.
My wishes for my readers is that they never feel alone in this journey. The most alone I ever felt was when my oldest son was diagnosed with Congenital Hypothyroidism as a newborn. I never want another parent to feel that alone.
The blogs I’d like to nominate for the Liebster award are:
Danna of Thyroid Nation. Danna has been a supporter of mine from Day 1, and I’m so grateful for her support and encouragement. Empowering other women is important to Danna, and she shows that by lifting other women up as she shares her knowledge and insight on thyroid disorders. Her website is informative and helpful. www.thyroidnation.com
Sarah of Butterflies & Phoenixes. Sarah is an incredible, multi-talented woman who bares her heart and soul on her blog. She is a kind, sweet soul who has a powerful way with words, particularly as they pertain to healing from chronic health disorders. She hasn’t written as much lately as she is focusing on a new career, but her writing is amazing and worth your time. www.sarahjdowning.com
Marissa of Mommie-Inc. Marissa is someone that I am proud to call a friend. She recently launched her new blog with her friend, Nayhra. They are beautiful women, inside and out. It’s their hope that their blog can be a creative space that will inspire and encourage all women. They desire for it to be a nurturing environment, where you can vent, laugh, cry, lend a listening ear, seek advice or give advice. www.mommie-inc.com
Pam of Our Little Tinies. I’ve known Pam since high school where we were lab partners in Chemistry class and are thankful to this day that we didn’t blow anything up! Pam writes a lifestyle blog where she gives advice on everything from parenting to style to decorating! She is down to earth and you will want to get to know her and follow her journey as mom of 3 precious boys! Her recipes are awesome and easy! www.ourlittletinies.blogspot.com
Debby of The Barefoot Blogger. Debby is my mom’s best friend and a bonus “Aunt” to me. She is a solo female, retired from a career in corporate marketing and divorced after 40 years of marriage. Two years ago, on a whim and following a dream, she moved from South Carolina to Uzes, France. Her travels take her around the world, and she shares her experiences in a wonderfully entertaining way. Most recently, the Barefoot Blogger explored Istanbul and Nepal. You simply have to follow her and travel vicariously through her OR better yet, glean from her the advice and tools to do so yourself! www.bfblogger.com
